The Made In India Tablet’s

If you are from India you might be familiar  with the word Tablet. Well a new entrant in the tablet category is Simmtronics, which claim’s to make all of their tablets here  in our home land India. A lot of other major Indian  companies like Micromax and Karbonn have their tablets in our markets this one is the cheapest of all the brand’s available in India. So here are the 3 tablets made by them one of them almost as cheap as the Datawind 7Ci (Akash 2).

Simmtronics Xpad X720

Simmtronics Xpad X720 is an Android Ice Cream Sandwich tablet with 7 inch capacitive WVGA display.  With 800X480 PPI with 16M colors

The tablet has a 0.3MP camera on the front side of the body for self-portrait and video chat, which is also capable of recording videos. The 4GB internal storage of the device lets users store ample amount of data. Other features include, multi format audio and video player, 2800 mAh battery, and 32GB expandable memory. The tablet weighs at 332g, comes with Google play pre-loaded for tons of app’s.

Price : 4,999 But you can get it for as low as 3,999

Simmtronics Xpad X801

Simmtronics Xpad X801 is again an Android Ice Cream Sandwich tablet with 2G voice calling support. The tablet sports an 8 inch capacitive touchscreen with a pixel resolution of 800x600p. It has 1.2GHz ARM Cortex A8 processor, complimented well by a 512MB DDR3 RAM. There is a 2MP camera on the back side of the body; a 0.3MP front camera is there for video chat and self-portrait. Sufficient amount of data can be stored with the 8GB built-in memory of the tablet. Other features include, multi format audio and video player, 4000 mAh battery, and 32GB expandable memory. The tablet is fairly heavy at 500g and with the 4000 mAh battery it offers 5 hrs of usage, comes with Google play pre-loaded for tons of app’s.

Buy at: http://www.saholic.com/tablets/simmtronics-xpad-x801-1006069

Freebies : Keyboard worth 1,499 and Mini speakers worth 499

Simmtronics Xpad X-1010

Simmtronics Xpad X1010 is again an Android IceCream Sandwich tablet but with a 10 inch capacitive display with a pixel resolution of 1024x600. It has 1.2GHz ARM Cortex A8 processor and 1GB DDR3 RAM for smooth performance. On connectivity segment, it has Wi-Fi, 3G (via dongle), and USB interface. The tablet has a 0.3MP camera on the front side of the body for self-portrait and video chat, it is also capable of recording videos. The 8GB internal storage of the device lets users store as much data as they want. Other features include, multi format audio and video player, 5600 mAh battery, and 32GB expandable memory. The weight of the tablet is again on the heavier side with 610g with a 1024x600 PPI with 16 M colors it has am HDMI port for you to connect it to your T.V with 2 micro USB ports On the camera front it disappoints us as  it has only a 0.3 MP front facing camera and a lack of a rear camera is not appreciated as the Xpad X-801 has a rear camera. With the 5600 mAh battery at least 6 hrs of usage is  promised. A accelerometer and G-Sensors are also provided, comes with Google play pre-loaded for tons of app’s.
Price : 9,499 But you can get it for as low as 8,499
Bottom line : According to me only the Xpad 720 is worth the price. For other tablets I say pass with them as you can get better product for the price.

The best tablets your money could’ve bought! In 2012

It won’t be exaggerating to say that the tablet market exploded in 2012. Right from the top-end till the budget ones, every segment saw a plethora of devices being added to it. Buying a tablet was confusing to say the least in 2012 and specially, in a country like India, where every second manufacturer came out with it’s own tablet, it must’ve been pretty hard for you to decide on which tablet, you should spend your hard-earned money on.
So, as we bid adieu to the year 2012, we at iGyaan try to chuck the rest and pick the best ones for you, no matter what your budget is!

Starting with the sub-Rs.10,000 category, here’s our pick!

Swipe Halo 3G (7-inch)
A full-sized, 10-inch tablet is not everyone’s cup of tea. So, if you have petit hands or are more comfortable using a smaller, 7-inch tablet, the Swipe Halo 3G would be your best pick.
Sporting an impressive, 1.5GHz processor coupled with 1GB of RAM, the Swipe Halo 3G runs on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and sports a 7-inch display with a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels. The tablet comes with 4GB of internal storage which can be expanded using a micro-SD card .
The biggest plus point of the device would be it’s voice calling capabilities, while it houses a 3,200 mAh battery and a  less-impressive 0.3 megapixel snapper.  You can get your hands at the Swipe Halo 3G for a price of Rs.9,350
Micromax Funbook Pro (10-inch)
If you’re budget is under 10K and you still wish to have a 10-inch tablet in your list of gadgets, Micromax has a pretty decent offering which might suit your needs. Come in, the Micromax Funbook Pro.
Powered by a 1.2 GHz Cortex A-8 processor paired with 1GB of RAM,  the Micromax Funbook Pro sports a 10.1-inch LCD capacitive display with a resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels. Running on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, the Micromax Funbook Pro comes with 8GB of internal storage, which is expandable by up to 32GB using a micro-SD card.
The tablet houses a 0.3 megapixel camera at the rear and also, a 5,600 mAh battery, which promises a video-play time of 6 hours, or up-to 5 hours of continuous internet browsing. The Micromax Funbook Pro is available in the market at a price Rs.9,999.

Now, if you’re ready to spend a little more, check out the list of the best tablets you can buy for under Rs.20,000

Asus Google Nexus 7 (7-inch)
We don’t even need to think for this one. The undisputed king here, has to be the Asus Google Nexus 7.
Yes, we know you unfair was Google (and Asus) to price it such high in the Indian market as compared to the US, where the base version retails for $199. But, all said and done, it is by far the best Android experience you can have on a 7-inch device and have no doubt about that.
Powered by a 1.2 GHz quad-core Nvidia 3 processor coupled with 1GB of RAN, the Nexus 7 runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean out of the box, but is now upgradable to Android 4.1.2 and would give you a pure Android experience. Another advantage of having stock Android on the Nexus 7 is that you won’t have to wait for ages to get Software updates.
The Nexus 7 features a 7-inch display with a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels and houses a 1.2 megapixel camera at the front which can be used for video-calling. The device comes with an internal storage of 16GB and that’s it. There’s no card slot for storage expansion, which might disappoint some. The Nexus 7 gets a 4,325 mAh battery and can be bought in the market for Rs.19,990.
Auxus Core X4 3G (10-inch)
A couple of days back, an Indian company known as iBerry, launched the Auxus Core X4 3G tablet in India, and if the specifications of the tablet are anything to by, it blows the competition out of water.
The Auxus Core X4 3G features a 9.7-inch IPS display with a resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels. Powered by a 1.6GHz quad-core Samsung Exynos processor, the tablets also  gets 2GB of RAM with Mali 400GPU. Just as the Auxus Core X2, this device also has an in-built 3G SIM slot which enables both data and voice calling on this device.
As for the camera, the rear of the Auxus Core X4 houses a 2 megapixel camera while there’s a 0.3 megapixel camera, just like the Auxus Core X2, at the front. Now, with such super-impressive specifications, the only downer with this device is that it runs on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich out of the box, which is confusing as it’s younger sibling comes with Jelly Bean.
Nonetheless, the device comes with 16GB of internal storage, with a micro-SD card slot for storage expansion of up to 64GB.The Auxus Core X4 comes with a monstrous 7,200 mAh battery. Mighty impressed with the specifications? Shell out Rs.15,990 (Yes, that low!) and this tablet can be yours!

Moving on to the next segment, we list the best tablets under Rs.30,000.

Well, we now have to divide this section in two segments because the maker of the world’s largest selling tablet, Apple comes into play here!

iPad Mini (7-inch)

For under Rs.30,000 you can get yourself the newly launched iPad Mini Wi-Fi+Cellular 16GB model. The iPad Mini, with a screen size of 7.9-inches, is slightly bigger than it’s conventional 7-inch Android counterparts and runs on iOS 6. Powered by an Apple A5 chip, the iPad mini comes with a 7.9-inch, 1024 x 768 pixel resolution display, though, it isn’t a Retina display.
At the Back, the iPad Mini sports a 5 megapixel camera which can record Full HD videos at 30 frames per second and also, a 1.2 megapixel Facetime HD camera. The 16.3 Watt battery on the iPad Mini  promises 10 hours of continuous internet browsing. Shell out Rs.29,990 and this version of iPad Mini could be yours!
iPad 3 (iOS, 10-inch)
One of the best tablets till date, the Apple iPad 3 is our pick in this segment. You can lay your hands on the 16GB Wi-Fi only version at a price of around Rs.27,000. Even with the arrival of the iPad 4, the iPad 3 still strongly hold it’s own and if you wish to buy one, we recommend you do it immediately as it is fast disappearing off-shelves in the country and Apple has no plans to make any more of these.

The iPad 3 sports a 9.7-inch Retina display which is a treat to the eyes. Powered by Apple’s A5X chip, the iPad 3 runs on iOS 5 out of the box, but you can upgrade it to iOS 6 as soon as you get it! The iPad 3 houses a 5 megapixel iSight camera that can record Full HD videos at 30fps and it also sports a 1.21 megapixel Facetime HD camera. Apple promises a battery life of up to 10 hours on a single charge on the iPad 3.
Huawei MediaPad 10FHD (10-inch, Android)
Now, here’s a bit of a bummer. The best “available” Android tablet hasn’t arrived on the shelves yet but nonetheless, you can expect this to be in stores anytime now. We’re talking about the Huawei MediaPad 10FHD.
Boasting of a 10.1-inch display that has a resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels, the Huawei MediaPad 10FHD is powered by a 1.4GHz quad core processor coupled with 2GB of RAM. Running on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, the tablet comes with storage options of 8/16/32 or 64GB but there’s no micro-SD car slot for storage expansion.
Housing a massive 6,600 mAh battery, the Huawei MediaPad 10FHD should be available in the stores anytime soon for sub-30K.

Ready to go all-out and spend a fortune to buy the best possible tablet available in the market today?

Here’s our pick for the best available tablet on this planet for upwards of Rs.30,000.

The Apple iPad 4 (iOS)
This is the tablet, which every manufacturer will look to kill, till Apple comes out with a newer model. The fourth generation iPad boasts of Apple’s A6X chip with quad core graphics which is touted to give faster than ever performance. Sporting a 9.7 inch retina display, the iPad 4 comes with a 5 megapixel iSight camera with enhanced optics and also, a 1.2 megapixel Facetime HD camera.
The iPad 4 range starts at Rs.39,990 for the 16GB Wi-Fi only model and goes up to as high as Rs.51,990 for the fully loaded, 64GB Wi-Fi+cellular model.
Samsung Galaxy Note 800 (Android)
This is probably the best Android offering available in India as of now, as far as full-sized tablets are concerned. The Galaxy Note 800 sports a 10.1-inch display with a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels.

Under the hood, the Note 800 is powered by a 1.4GHz quad-core Exynos 4412 processor coupled with 2GB of RAM. Running on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, the Note 800 houses a 5 megapixel rear snapper that can record 720p videos at 30fps and a 1.9 megapixel front-facing camera as well.
The galaxy Note 800 comes with 16GB of internal storage, which can be expanded by up to 32GB using a micro-SD card. Samsung had loaded the Note 800 with a monstrous 7,000 mAh battery. The Galaxy Note 800 is available in the market at a price of Rs.37,500

Aakash 3 to come with SIM slot, new apps: Report

Aakash 1 or Aakash 2 might not have reached the students, but we are already hearing about the third version of this elusive tablet from Indian government. According to a report by Times of India, Aakash 3 will come with a SIM card slot and newer apps.
The third iteration of the Akash tablet is expected to be announced next year and Indian government is likely to float a tender to get a manufacturer for the same in February 2013.
Times of India add that about 50 lakhs of Aakash 3 tablets are expected to be rolled out in the next phase.aakash 2 1 Aakash 3 to come with SIM slot, new apps: Report
“Our aim is to imbibe the usage of tablets in the education system and create an ecosystem for this. We have distributed Aakash tablets to 250 colleges across the country and asked them to come up with newer ways to use the device,” Deepak B Phatak, committee member and a professor in IIT- Bombay’s Department of Computer Science and Engineering told TOI.
Aakash 3 will reportedly feature faster processor, newer version of Android (a Linux version is also expected).
Aakash, a low cost tablet project for the Indian college and school students, was originally introduced in 2010. Indian government showcased the first prototype of the tablet the same year but the prototype never became a reality. The government than unveiled a new tablet with Aakash name in the year 2011, the tablet was criticised for the low specs and poor performance.
This tablet too like the former never reached the student. HRD Ministry than came out with Aakash 2, which is the latest version to be announced. This iteration is also yet to reach the students. So, Aakash tablet project might have created a lot of hype, but in reality like any other government scheme, it has turned out to a mirage.

The tab features and price makes it the best buy. For now there are very few dual core tablets available in the market. For example the 7 inch Wammy Desire is priced at Rs. 7,448 with shipping and the Velox Tab 8 you get it for approx Rs. 7000 that too with an 8 inch screen.
The Karbonn Velox Tab 8 is powered by a Dual core Cortex A9 processor clocked at 1.5GHz with dual core GPU. It comes with 1GB RAM and approx 1.5 GB storage (not sure if it’s free or total storage space). The tab comes with dual cameras a 3 MP placed on the rear and a VGA on the front.
Velox Tab 8 runs on the Android Jelly Bean version 4.1 OS. The TFT LCD capacitive touchscreen display is 8 inches with 1024×768 pixels resolution. The tab supports fullHD 1080P videos. Other features are Wi-Fi, external 3G dongle supported. There is no Bluetooth and GPS.
Price and feature wise this definitely looks like a good buy. Also note that iBerry is coming up with Auxus CoreX2 and Auxus Core X4 (dual core and quad core tablets with built in 3G SIM slot), that will be available within few weeks.

Videocon VT10 tablet now available in India for INR 11,200

As the company promised during the smartphone launch, Videocon’s first Android tablet has landed in the Indian market. Available now at two online retailers Snapdeal and Homeshop18, the tablet comes with a 10.1-inch display and carries VT10 moniker. Company has priced it at INR 11,200.
Videocon VT800 has quite some firsts for a budget tablet. It sports a decent 1280x800p resolution display, which is normally not the case with other cheap tablets. It is powered by a 1.5GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, unlike Mediatek or Rockchip processor in its counterparts.vt10 Videocon VT10 tablet now available in India for INR 11,200
Other specs of the tablet include Android 4.1, 1GB RAM, 2MP rear camera, 2MP front camera, and 6800 mAh battery. On the connectivity front, there is Wi-Fi and 3G dongle support.
Videocon, which was absent from both smartphone and tablet market for the last two years and has made a decent re-entry with good and value-for-money smartphones and a nice tablet. We hope company continues the same in the next year.

Karbonn A30 review – The big smartphone!

Here is the review of Karbonn A30 the big smartphone sporting a 5.9 inch screen with dual core processor, sailing on the ICS OS. The handset is now priced at under Rs. 11,500.

A30 Box pack
The box though looks compact, but when you unbox it the first thing you see is the A30 wrapped inside the complementary leather cover.  It does feel good. Inside the box you will find the handset, earphone, USB to Micro USB cable, power adapter, 2500 mAh battery and user manual / warranty & service center list.
You get a complementary leather cover that is attached to the back cover so do not try to remove it. If you already did don’t worry use a glue to stick it back. There is a spare back cover in case you are not happy with the leather cover or want a change for the time being.
Design
The handset is big, really big, the screen is 1 inch smaller than a traditional 7 inch tablet. The handset weighs around 260 grams. I checked the A30 with Wammy Desire and found the Desire to be lighter. Karbonn A30 is 10mm thick but cause of the leather cover you will not feel the size.  I would say Karbonn did a good job by proving a free leather cover cause without it the excitement would have lost.
There are 4 touch sensitive buttons on the front, power button on right, volume rockers on left, 3.5 mm jack on top and micro USB port and mic at the bottom.
Karbonn A30 review
Display
It’s huge at 5.9 inches with capacitive touch and 800×480 pixels resolution. You may think the resolution is too much for the 5.9 inch screen, well we have seen the same on 7 inch tablet. Yes it is not that sharp as you would have seen on a smaller screen for example on Micromax A110 with same resolution on a 5 inch display.
However Karbonn has used a good theme and big fonts/icons to fill in the gap between resolution and size. And it really did work to some extent.  There is gesture control app that makes use of the front camera.
CPU, GPU, Memory and storage
The Dual core MT6577 @ 1GHz + the PowerVR SGX 531 GPU runs the show. The RAM is 512MB of which you get around 234MB fee. Of the 4GB internal storage you get around 2GB free.  The MT6577 hardware is impressive and as for performance, we have already seen that on A110.
Benchmark Scores
  • Quadrant Benchmark Score : 2801.
  • Antutu Benchmark Score : 7120,  2nd time – 7250.
  • Nenamark 2 : 27.6 fps.
  • Linpack : Single : 39, Multi thread : 56.
  • MultiTouch : 5 Point.
Camera and Video recording
The 8 MP camera does shoot impressive still photos, the LED is no good. The camera is best for outdoor photography. I found the auto focusing / touch focus better than on A110. The camera default settings are perfect and you can start clicking perfect pictures without changing any settings.
You can record 720p videos check the sample at the end of the article.  The box pack says you can play 1080p movies, however I tried it and it does not work. It fact it seems the MT6577 cannot play 1080p movies.
Entertainment
The dual speaker does an excellent job. The sound output is excellent; you will notice the difference immediately. It is a delight watching movies on 5.9 inch with dual speakers.
Others
There is G-Sensor and proximity sensor, there is no light and magnetic sensor. There is built in GPS that works well. It could take few minutes to get that fist lock.
There is the video call button in the phone dialer. The dialer looks different with a new skin (check the video review). I found the in call speaker volume lower than what I have experienced on the MMX A110. There is 3G/2G support via SIM 1 and 2G via SIM 2. Wi-Fi, Bluetooth worked well.
Battery
A big size phone will need a bigger battery and the 2500 mAh should be sufficient to get it going for a full day.
Who should buy this Phone?
Those looking for a tablet with all of the features that a smartphone has can opt for this one. It is with MT6577 processor and PowerVR SGX 531 GPU which is not as powerful as the Mali 400 GPU. But you get the smartphone features and nearly the tab size screen (1 inch smaller as compared with 7 inch tabs).
Karbonn A30 is big, good for those who would want to use it more for surfing, entertainment and less for voice calls. Also note the A30 does not fit in the pockets and you will be carrying it most of the time. A price of under Rs. 11K would have been perfect, still it is a good buy if size does not matter.
