The best tablets your money could’ve bought! In 2012

It won’t be exaggerating to say that the tablet market exploded in 2012. Right from the top-end till the budget ones, every segment saw a plethora of devices being added to it. Buying a tablet was confusing to say the least in 2012 and specially, in a country like India, where every second manufacturer came out with it’s own tablet, it must’ve been pretty hard for you to decide on which tablet, you should spend your hard-earned money on.
So, as we bid adieu to the year 2012, we at iGyaan try to chuck the rest and pick the best ones for you, no matter what your budget is!

Starting with the sub-Rs.10,000 category, here’s our pick!

Swipe Halo 3G (7-inch)
A full-sized, 10-inch tablet is not everyone’s cup of tea. So, if you have petit hands or are more comfortable using a smaller, 7-inch tablet, the Swipe Halo 3G would be your best pick.
Sporting an impressive, 1.5GHz processor coupled with 1GB of RAM, the Swipe Halo 3G runs on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and sports a 7-inch display with a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels. The tablet comes with 4GB of internal storage which can be expanded using a micro-SD card .
The biggest plus point of the device would be it’s voice calling capabilities, while it houses a 3,200 mAh battery and a  less-impressive 0.3 megapixel snapper.  You can get your hands at the Swipe Halo 3G for a price of Rs.9,350
Micromax Funbook Pro (10-inch)
If you’re budget is under 10K and you still wish to have a 10-inch tablet in your list of gadgets, Micromax has a pretty decent offering which might suit your needs. Come in, the Micromax Funbook Pro.
Powered by a 1.2 GHz Cortex A-8 processor paired with 1GB of RAM,  the Micromax Funbook Pro sports a 10.1-inch LCD capacitive display with a resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels. Running on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, the Micromax Funbook Pro comes with 8GB of internal storage, which is expandable by up to 32GB using a micro-SD card.
The tablet houses a 0.3 megapixel camera at the rear and also, a 5,600 mAh battery, which promises a video-play time of 6 hours, or up-to 5 hours of continuous internet browsing. The Micromax Funbook Pro is available in the market at a price Rs.9,999.

Now, if you’re ready to spend a little more, check out the list of the best tablets you can buy for under Rs.20,000

Asus Google Nexus 7 (7-inch)
We don’t even need to think for this one. The undisputed king here, has to be the Asus Google Nexus 7.
Yes, we know you unfair was Google (and Asus) to price it such high in the Indian market as compared to the US, where the base version retails for $199. But, all said and done, it is by far the best Android experience you can have on a 7-inch device and have no doubt about that.
Powered by a 1.2 GHz quad-core Nvidia 3 processor coupled with 1GB of RAN, the Nexus 7 runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean out of the box, but is now upgradable to Android 4.1.2 and would give you a pure Android experience. Another advantage of having stock Android on the Nexus 7 is that you won’t have to wait for ages to get Software updates.
The Nexus 7 features a 7-inch display with a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels and houses a 1.2 megapixel camera at the front which can be used for video-calling. The device comes with an internal storage of 16GB and that’s it. There’s no card slot for storage expansion, which might disappoint some. The Nexus 7 gets a 4,325 mAh battery and can be bought in the market for Rs.19,990.
Auxus Core X4 3G (10-inch)
A couple of days back, an Indian company known as iBerry, launched the Auxus Core X4 3G tablet in India, and if the specifications of the tablet are anything to by, it blows the competition out of water.
The Auxus Core X4 3G features a 9.7-inch IPS display with a resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels. Powered by a 1.6GHz quad-core Samsung Exynos processor, the tablets also  gets 2GB of RAM with Mali 400GPU. Just as the Auxus Core X2, this device also has an in-built 3G SIM slot which enables both data and voice calling on this device.
As for the camera, the rear of the Auxus Core X4 houses a 2 megapixel camera while there’s a 0.3 megapixel camera, just like the Auxus Core X2, at the front. Now, with such super-impressive specifications, the only downer with this device is that it runs on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich out of the box, which is confusing as it’s younger sibling comes with Jelly Bean.
Nonetheless, the device comes with 16GB of internal storage, with a micro-SD card slot for storage expansion of up to 64GB.The Auxus Core X4 comes with a monstrous 7,200 mAh battery. Mighty impressed with the specifications? Shell out Rs.15,990 (Yes, that low!) and this tablet can be yours!

Moving on to the next segment, we list the best tablets under Rs.30,000.

Well, we now have to divide this section in two segments because the maker of the world’s largest selling tablet, Apple comes into play here!

iPad Mini (7-inch)

For under Rs.30,000 you can get yourself the newly launched iPad Mini Wi-Fi+Cellular 16GB model. The iPad Mini, with a screen size of 7.9-inches, is slightly bigger than it’s conventional 7-inch Android counterparts and runs on iOS 6. Powered by an Apple A5 chip, the iPad mini comes with a 7.9-inch, 1024 x 768 pixel resolution display, though, it isn’t a Retina display.
At the Back, the iPad Mini sports a 5 megapixel camera which can record Full HD videos at 30 frames per second and also, a 1.2 megapixel Facetime HD camera. The 16.3 Watt battery on the iPad Mini  promises 10 hours of continuous internet browsing. Shell out Rs.29,990 and this version of iPad Mini could be yours!
iPad 3 (iOS, 10-inch)
One of the best tablets till date, the Apple iPad 3 is our pick in this segment. You can lay your hands on the 16GB Wi-Fi only version at a price of around Rs.27,000. Even with the arrival of the iPad 4, the iPad 3 still strongly hold it’s own and if you wish to buy one, we recommend you do it immediately as it is fast disappearing off-shelves in the country and Apple has no plans to make any more of these.

The iPad 3 sports a 9.7-inch Retina display which is a treat to the eyes. Powered by Apple’s A5X chip, the iPad 3 runs on iOS 5 out of the box, but you can upgrade it to iOS 6 as soon as you get it! The iPad 3 houses a 5 megapixel iSight camera that can record Full HD videos at 30fps and it also sports a 1.21 megapixel Facetime HD camera. Apple promises a battery life of up to 10 hours on a single charge on the iPad 3.
Huawei MediaPad 10FHD (10-inch, Android)
Now, here’s a bit of a bummer. The best “available” Android tablet hasn’t arrived on the shelves yet but nonetheless, you can expect this to be in stores anytime now. We’re talking about the Huawei MediaPad 10FHD.
Boasting of a 10.1-inch display that has a resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels, the Huawei MediaPad 10FHD is powered by a 1.4GHz quad core processor coupled with 2GB of RAM. Running on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, the tablet comes with storage options of 8/16/32 or 64GB but there’s no micro-SD car slot for storage expansion.
Housing a massive 6,600 mAh battery, the Huawei MediaPad 10FHD should be available in the stores anytime soon for sub-30K.
