HTC Butterfly vs Sony Xperia Z

Today, HTC launched the HTC Butterfly in India, making it the first smartphone to be launched with a 1080p display and the quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro processor in India. This however will not be the only of its kind. Soon we will see the HTC Butterfly have an armada of competition and this will almost surely start with the delectable Sony Xperia Z we saw first at CES. We pit both the devices in a head-to-head specification comparison, read on to find out more.
While 1080p displays is the theme, the HTC Butterfly is not a solo roadrunner in this party. Even the Sony Xperia Z boasts a 5-inch 1080p panel that matches the PPI count of the Butterfly.
The Xperia Z goes one step further and adds waterproof and dust protection, however even the Butterfly touts similar water resistance which makes both these devices resistant to water induced damage.
Both devices share the Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro chipset that has quad-cores and a clock speed of 1.5GHz. Additionally both also have 2GB of RAM embedded for a silky smooth experience.
When it comes to photography, both the Butterfly and the Xperia Z have some laud worthy chops of their own. The Butterfly has an 8-megapixel camera with HTC’s image sense chip. It even has a 2-megapixel front-facing camera that as a wide-angle lens which makes it perfect for video calls. The Sony Xperia Z puts all this imaging business to mockery with its latest 13-megapixel sensor that can shoot HDR for video and stills on the fly. It also has a 1.9-megapixel front-facing camera.
In the memory department it’s a stalemate between the Butterfly and the Xperia Z. Both the devices also have microSD card slots to boot.
Even in the battery department, the Xperia Z has a slightly ahead of the Butterfly thanks to its 2,330 mAh battery. The Butterfly on the other hand has a smaller 2,020 mAh battery.
So all this makes us believe that as much as we’d love to say that the Butterfly is the best in the business, it will not hold that title for long and if one is considering shelling out so much money, it will be advisable to wait for a bit. That said, new phones keep coming out all the time and we always say that if you need a phone buy it now don’t wait for something better, because there will always be something better in the near future.
